Starting Aug. 1, Houston ISD Athletic Facilities will implement new entry rules as an added layer of security, in addition to the scanners and bag inspections already in place.

Prior to the NES implementation in fall 2023, HISD lagged behind the state average in all STAAR assessments. This year, 10 of the 12 third to eighth grade math and reading tests met or exceeded the state average.

Starting this fall, Houston ISD is ramping up its early literacy interventions at select campuses to ensure that all students entering third grade in 2028 will read on grade level, including adding an optional extra grade level between Kindergarten and first grade called Kinder Bridge.
